My process for making this game :
This is a game I made over the course of about 3 or 4 weeks in Unity. The focus of this game was to showcase my game design in a game I could create by myself as opposed to with a team. I wanted to try and make something unique, and thus decided to make a 3D Platformer, with the ability to redirect yourself in the air. After fleshing out the design some more, I began to script the mechanics of the game, which I drew from a number of different online tutorials.
The script I used for creating the mobile platforms doubled as a script that would make level design easier, as the script would make the platforms move between two wire-frame boxes (one green, one red) that would get the size of the platform itself. The script would send the box in the direction of the green wire-frame box, and once the platform completely covered it, the script would locate the red wire-frame box and send the platform in that direction. This meant that I could place the green and red wire-frame boxes in any point in 3D space and the platform would move between them, which was the main mechanic behind my game; finding interesting and challenging obstacles that the player would have to overcome using simple platform movement.
Once my obstacle course was done, I created some floating text throughout the obstacle course to give the player some basic instructions. Then put a "space like" skybox over the game world. Then it was simply a matter of scripting the victory and loss conditions, as well as scripting a basic start screen, game over screen and victory screen.
